Amateur Mistake
The other day I had a dentist appointment. This wouldn't be so exciting for me but my dentist is really close to my favorite knitting shop, The Knitting Corner. I went early because I knew I would be able to sit a spell before going to the dentist. I needed buttons for my Lacy Green Jacket so I picked it up and took it with me. I was so proud that I had almost finished it. I laid it on the counter for the ladies to see and there were gasps. Before...

Evidently, I sewed up the sems in a not so attractive way. Susan (the shop owner) showed me the proper way. I was amazed at the difference in the two methods. Of course Susan's way was much better. You know what's coming next...I had to leave the dentist office with a new painful filling and rip out all my work from the day before. It truly was worth it.

After...
don't you think it looks much better? Me too.
Here is the sleeve sown on too.

I have even got some buttons to sew on. I will be sewing them on tonight.

Looks like you've got the seaming figured out now. Pretty buttons.

I've heard of taking classes on "finishing techniques". I think I'd really get a lot out of something like that. There are also books available on the same subject. I always worry about what my seams look like. The inside isn't bad but I never really know if the outside looks very good or not and not many knitters nearby to tell me otherwise. I should take close pictures of my seams and then see if anyone has tips on whether I could/should do it differently! Thanks for telling about it - the re-done seam looks really nice. :)

WW-I like that the outside of the jacket looks like it's been knitted and not sown together. I think the second picture is so much better! I am glad I had to go to the dentist!

Laura-there is a series going on at Knitting Corner and I am thinking about taking one of those classes. You can do, I think about 10-12 weeks for $100 or you can sit in on a two hour class and pay $15. I want to take a few of the classes. They are on Saturdays from 1-3 if I remember correctly. When you are the only knitter around, it's tough. I think that's why I look to other's blogs for info. I think the blogs are a great source not to mention good for a few laughs.

Posting your seams sounds like a great idea. Then someone might be able to tell you if they are smooth enough. I have no earthly idea as you can see from the first photo, so I can't help you but it still would be interesting to see/hear what others suggest.
